I'm glad you landed on Tortilla Gear's website, hopefully it's been nice so far!
What is this site all about? Good question. I'm still figuring that out.
Ultimately, Tortilla Gear started as a secret ploy to have the high-functioning gear that I want. Hopefully some of the things I've made and enjoy spill over into other people's lives and they enjoy them too. I'd count that as a win.
My Story
I'm Timmy Tortilla, inventor of the tortilla.... juuuuuuust kidding. I'm just your typical nerd that likes to make jokes in the woods with friends. Though I do really, really love tortillas and appreciate the excellence in their function.

It's funny to grow older and see the themes that have stuck with you for your whole life. Backpacking, and making gear to do it, captures what has been at the core of what I've wanted to do for my whole life. The minimalism of having everything with you to go wherever you want, moving quickly through beautiful places so you can enjoy and see the next and the next, simplicity in function so everything works as intended and doesn't slow you down. I moved on from obsessively refining paper airplanes and parachutes (mostly...) and got an engineering degree which I use at my full-time job. Many of the principles I use at work, creative problem solving within design bounds, are a segment of what is fulfilling about making and refining backpacking gear. Is Tortilla Gear the center of my Venn diagrams? Maybe, if not, it's close.
